Turn Down for Big Shot (Billy Joel vs. DJ Snake ft. Lil John)

In DJ Snake’s seminal 2013 banger “Turn Down for What” we are given, perhaps, the ultimate rhetorical question of the millennium, “for what would we turn down?”  After years of research and careful consideration the Pop Conductor has found an answer: “Big Shot!”

This is one of our favorite kinds of mashups.  One that reaches way across genres and expectations.  One whose tracks are 35 years separated.  “Turn Down for What” is a track that sits on the fulcrum between absolutely absurd and dead serious, and the more seriously you take it, the more absurd it becomes (perfection).  Which seems echo the truly crazy narrative of “Big Shot,” Billy Joel’s story of a coked up, drunk, big-winded socialite with a raging hangover and an agenda to be seen.  We all have that friend.

So, again, in response to the age old question “for what would you turn down?”, we at Pop Conductor exclaim “Turn Down for Big Shot!”
